  • Introduced by Rep. Jim Abeler, Rep. Ron Abrams, Rep. Laura Brod, Rep. Chris DeLaForest, Rep. Ron Erhardt, Rep. Dan Larson, Rep. Ann Lenczewski and Rep. Loren Solberg on January 20, 2005, to allow the state to issue bonds up to $94 million to fund a new gopher football stadium when the University of Minnesota has at least $141 million in pledges from nonstate general fund money designated for that purpose. Construction materials for the stadium would be tax exempt, and the University would be allowed to cancel its lease with the Metrodome when the stadium is complete (SF237 Companion Bill).

    • Reported by Rep. Bud Nornes on April 6, 2005, from the Higher Education Finance Committee with amendments and the recommendation that the bill pass and be re-referred to the Taxes Committee. As amended, provisions were deleted which would have requested that the Board of Regents undertake an environmental review of stadium project and permited issuance of on-sale liquor licenses for spectator suites and clubs in the stadium. The report was adopted.
