  • Introduced by Sen. David Gaither, Sen. Sharon Marko, Sen. Geoff Michel, Sen. David H. Senjem and Sen. Jim Vickerman on January 13, 2005, to allow the state to issue bonds up to $94 million to fund a new gopher football stadium when the University of Minnesota has at least $141 million in pledges from nonstate general fund money designated for that purpose. Construction materials for the stadium would be tax exempt, and the University would be allowed to cancel its lease with the Metrodome when the stadium is complete (HF263 Companion Bill).
    • Referred to the Senate Finance Committee on January 13, 2005.
    • Motion by Sen. Geoff Michel on January 26, 2005, that SF237 be withdrawn from the Finance Committee and re-referred to the State and Local Government Operations Committee. The motion passed in the Senate by voice vote on January 26, 2005.
    • Reported by Sen. Linda Higgins on March 29, 2005, from the State and Local Government Operations Committee with amendments and the recommendation that the bill pass as amended. As amended, American steel would have to be used to "the greatest extent practicable" and there would have to be an assurance of "affordable access for University students." The report was adopted.
